What this practises

Prepare an easy shared activity around a gift-opening session. The steps below provide opportunities to practise; they do not promise measured developmental gains.

Before you start

The host has checked that the printed gift list suits the event and that the guest of honour wants to play.

Materials

Six sample gift-bingo cards, pencils and the host checklist. If gift opening is not part of the event, choose another activity.

Run the activity

  1. Prepare before guests arrive · 5 minutes

Preview the six different sample cards. For more guests, use the maker to create the actual quantity. Give one card to each player and mark the free centre.

  2. Agree on matching · 3 minutes

Decide before starting which gift descriptions count as a match. Keep the rule consistent. Guests can watch without playing.

  3. Open gifts and mark · 9 minutes

When a gift is opened, the host announces a matching printed item, if there is one. Players mark that item. Do not promise that every printed item will appear.

  4. Check and close · 3 minutes

Five in a row horizontally, vertically or diagonally wins a round. Check the line against the opened gifts. Allow joint winners and end when the agreed time is reached.

Questions to ask

  • How many guests need a card?
  • Who will announce matching items?
  • What will we do if two guests finish together?

Offer more support

Keep the game optional. Read item names aloud and offer a larger single-card print layout in the maker.

Extend the activity

For an event without gift opening, use the baby-word list for a caller-led round instead. Print its caller checklist and explain the changed rules.

Answers and checking

The host chooses these settings before play. Sample cards use the gift list; mark items actually opened. Gift bingo has no caller sheet. The alternate baby-word game uses a separate caller checklist.

Limits and care

The sample has six cards and no guarantee of a winning line. Different arrangements can still finish together. This guide does not recommend collecting money or running a paid contest.

After you try it

Note the actual group size, time used, a question that helped, and a change you would make. This is a proposed activity plan, not a report of a classroom or event trial. Share feedback with support; omit participants' names and personal details.
